Canola is more than a crop to me. Canola to me represents beauty, technology, sustainability, and potential. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing those blooming bright yellow flowers against a blue prairie sky in the summer. Canola has helped our farm become more environmentally sustainable through zero till practices which helps reduce erosion and capture carbon. Canola is a great example of the scientific research, and technological advancements. In the 70s, Canadian scientists removed the undesirable components from rapeseed to develop a new high quality edible oilseed that has worldwide demand. Lastly, canola is full of potential. It has helped our farm through some hard times. Because of the value of its seed, oil and meal, helps makes canola a powerhouse and a source of revenue for our farm to help us keep growing into the next generation.
